Website usability testing

Is my website user-friendly? You probably have an idea about it, but have you ever had it tested? Your website may look very "slick," but that's no guarantee that visitors will find their way around it easily. And your website may be equipped with a heavy search engine, but that doesn't mean that visitors will actually use that search box. But, you can find out when you do a test.

What does a UX researcher do?

UX research often starts with an existing website or app (for example, an e-commerce website or a health tracking app) and a question about end-user behavior (the visitors vof users). To measure usability or ease of use, a UX researcher likes to work with a usability test (usability means ease of use).

Usability research for websites

A usability test is a qualitative method to measure usability of a part of the website or app. You can organize such a test with 5 to 6 (potential) end users and these tests can be done on location or remotely. UX Coach has a lot of experience in organizing usability tests, and is happy to propose a plan of approach for your website.

In conjunction with a usability test, other data can also be analyzed to know an even richer picture of the entire target audience and their behavior. For example, Google Analytics, Search Console, or heat-maps and recordings of website usage.

What is the result of a usability test?

You can expect a comprehensive report or presentation, which we will go over together. In the presentation you will find:

overall results - how successful is your website (in numbers)?
the pain points we found out during the test (the down points with reasoning)
how difficult or easy the participants found the test
concrete recommendations to improve your website
if you run multiple usability tests in a row, a comparison of the different rounds.

Is user experience research the same as usability research?

Usability means ease of use, and is a part of the total user experience (UX). The total user experience consists of very many different factors, each of which you can examine one by one. A usability test focuses primarily on ease of use, but looks less at the context of use, the tone of voice of the website or the graphic design. Depending on the product or service you want to research, UX Coach suggests a different approach, with different research methods.
